DocuWare ODBC lets you
integrate an ODBC database, such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server,
into the document management system as an alternative to DocuWare's
standard database. In systems where numerous users file and process
documents, documents can then be managed via client-server
databases.
Client-server databases are gaining
in popularity. With the DocuWare ODBC add-on module, SQL databases
such as Oracle or SQL Server/NT can be used as an alternative to
DocuWare's standard database. This enables teams of unlimited size
to work actively (i.e. file and search for documents and modify
search criteria) in the same file cabinets. True client-server
technology minimizes the network load.
Architecture
For each file cabinet, DocuWare ODBC requires a database
with the appropriate configuration. This must be set up by either
the system administrator or an Authorized DocuWare Partner using the
appropriate tools or SQL commands.
From network workstations, DocuWare 4 accesses the database server
via ODBC interface. Communication between the ODBC interface and the
database server is handled by the drivers provided by the
manufacturer of the respective database server.
Flexibility
Database administrators with technical expertise can access ODBC
databases directly and query information using appropriate programs.
Providing that DocuWare's structure and data integrity are
maintained, it is also possible to modify the contents of the
document database directly.
