Relational databases are normally used for managing archived
documents. This means that, for each document, search criteria must
be entered either manually or automatically into a menu with
previously defined fields. These criteria can then be used to search
for documents.
When using a fulltext database the whole content (all text) of the
document can be searched. One can therefore find documents by single
words that appear on a document.
How it works
Utilization of a true client-server full-text database
allows DocuWare FULLTEXT to execute comprehensive full-text queries.
The prerequisite for this is that the documents are either
machine-generated files (CI documents), the texts of which can be
read directly into the full-text database, or that the quality of
the scanned originals is so good that the texts can be read into the
full-text database via OCR (optical character recognition).
Benefits
In additional to the standard operators "AND" and
"OR", other powerful functions are available for full-text
searches. These are, for example, special operators which define
spatial relationships within a document, or which influence the
relevance of hits for subsequent sorting. Furthermore time-consuming
indexing can be eliminated by indexing the whole content of the
document.
Technical Data
DocuWare FULLTEXT is an add-on module for DocuWare. The Fulcrum
database server runs in a network under Windows NT/2000; on a
standalone workstation, it can also run under Windows 95/98.
DocuWare communicates with the server via an ODBC driver, which is
included in the FULLTEXT program.
